Training for Supporters, Volunteers or Doulas for the Dying
Many people feel they could play a role in supporting people at the end of life. Until now there has been no established training programme in the UK.
Traditionally Doulas are present at the birth of a child - they work alongside the midwife to provide emotional, spiritual comfort and practical assistance to the mother and to gently lead the newborn into the world.
Now, there is an emerging non-medical role: Doulas-for–the-Dying, who help those who are dying to feel safe and supported, as they make the transition from this life to the next.
The companionship role of the Doula is very broad. It offers the individual, family and friends, non-medical support in matters practical, emotional and spiritual, during this sensitive time.
Three levels of training are offered.
A foundation and certificate level training for supporters or volunteers.
This consists of: a five-day foundation course and an additional six days of training for the volunteers certificate.
Doulas wishing to practice on a professional footing are offered a further ten-day advanced level course, leading to a diploma.
If you would like to sign up for the next Foundation course DATES: March 1st, 2nd 3rd + April 26th & 27th 2012 please contact us for a brochure and registration form.
