What we offer

Our aim is to support people to live their life as fully as possible right to the end, while making it easier for them to die at home if they want to. For families bringing their dying home is a huge commitment and they need considerable support.

Doulas have training in supporting people at the beginning, (birth doulas) and end of life. Doulas-for- the-dying walk along side the family as an informed companion and can offer practical and emotional support. They are a consistent and compassionate presence, with knowledge, experience and understanding. They do not replace medical care but facilitate access to resources that are available, enabling the family to maintain the best quality of life possible.

Through their training the Doulas are able to: - form relationships with people at the end of their lives, their families and their wider social network - act as a consistent, informed companion, to accompany and mentor the family - become familiar with the needs of the individual and family and offer appropriate practical, emotional and/or spiritual support - work in partnership with palliative care professionals and the community The involvement of the Doula is very flexible and responsive, and evolves in relationship to the unique circumstances of the individual, in a way that is respectful and empowering.
